Beaver Island doesn’t only have a unique name, but also holds a unique feel and vibe. It is located inside Lake Michigan, about 43 miles away from Charlevoix, MI. You can travel to Beaver Island by ferry boat or by plane. This information to plan either a ferry boat or travel by plane to Beaver Island is located at the bottom of this page.
Once you arrive at Beaver Island, you feel as though you are secluded by a fresh water ocean. The smooth waves crash against the beaches and the lighthouses are scattered across the 13 miles long and 6 miles wide island. Fishing and swimming are all accepted activities. Playing spikeball in the soft sand has been a family favorite. On the walk back home, here are a few giftshops within the small downtown area. Although, you will not find the same attire each time you visit, for the merchandise is made fresh every year. Coming home, making a homecooked meal with the family are more memories made and lots of laughs to share. After eating, you also experience the countless shooting stars and comets across the darkest sky you have ever seen next to your crackling warm bonfire. If you are wanting a spooky adventure, you can go on a night ride to find Protar’s Tomb. There’s so much more to experience when the middle of nowhere becomes somewhere.

Divine Travels 
Great info. Seems like a great area to vacation. I was actually near the area this past weekend in Boyne City which is at the other end of Lake Charlevoix. We were attending a wedding on the shore. It was an amazing place to watch the sunset.

What a small world! I bet it was so wonderful. I was on Beaver Island last weekend, and the weather was nothing short of beautiful. The sunsets are out of this world! Especially with not having anything but the horizon on Lake Michigan. I hope you had a great time at the wedding!

This place sounds like a great time! I am curious what months they are really active and if winter time should be avoided, or can it be an enjoyable time too? I love that this is in the middle of nowhere, because being able to see the stars and comets, are not a luxury in most locations. I also like that there is plenty of activities, and really enjoy the thought of everything being homemade and changing every year! I would think that would help keep people coming back to see what’s new! Thank you for providing all of this interesting information about Beaver Island!

The island is one of a kind for sure! Winter on the island is mostly avoided. I had spoken to many of the islanders who live and work there during the summer months, and they say that they usually leave before snowfall. Since all of their supplies comes from the ferry and the plane, there would be scarce resources on the island.
I agree that being able to see comets and satellites move across the sky is a luxury. There is so much light pollution in so many popular locations. I also agree that since things do change every year, it keeps bringing in the same visitors as well!
